Method

Char the orange slice: place a dry cast-iron skillet over high heat. Add the orange slice; sear 30 seconds per side until the sugars caramelize and the slice darkens. Set aside.

Combine the gin, lemon juice, and simple syrup in a shaker with cubed ice. Shake hard for 12 seconds.

Strain into a rocks glass packed with crushed ice. Mound the ice high.

Hold a barspoon just above the ice. Slowly drizzle the crème de mûre over the spoon so it cascades through the ice.

Garnish with the charred orange slice and a fresh blackberry.
